Screen Shot 2014-08-11 at 20.58.49Spice has always defined who I am. My first sensory memory would be the intoxicating aroma after a monsoon shower in my beloved Karachi, where I grew up. Since then, of course I have inhaled many a delightful smell, from flowers to foods, but there is no other grounding and nostalgic scent that takes me to a safe, warm and sacred place than that freshly moist earth of my homeland.I knew when I first begin this explorative yet strangely familiar journey of food through my country, that I would live through many recollections of my childhood, many loved ones gone and most of all many tastes experienced along the way. What I never realised was that all these collectively would bring me to find my place, my journey would only begin once I found this refuge. With much trepidation and procrastination (which is typical of me), I begin what I would call finding my roots which I always was very tightly attached too. Finding it deeper within me as I explore spice, flowers, relive aromas and bring to people the joy that flavour gave to me growing up, and ultimately found me to my calling in life, albeit, late in life! I now am here to share with anyone who seeks to understand the essence of spice in food and how connected the world in on a palate.Masala Monsoon and the blends I create will hopefully join not just the flavours of my childhood memories of warm monsoon showers in my cuisine but open a world of flavour with the the use of these blends in many cuisines. With the hope that it opens the doors to the idea that taste, food, flavour and above all spice, has no bounds to land or sea.I hope that where ever Masala Monsoon takes you, it's a warm safe place - that is after all the story it is based on....Look out for my 1st offerings, floral garam masalas, first of their kind with a story of celebration behind each one, can be used with sweet, savoury and in ANY cuisine:Rose Petal Garam masalaJasmine Petal Garam masalaMarigold Petal Garam masalaComing soon to www.masalamonsoon.com Online shop and Etsy tooAnd selected deli's and grocery shops across the UK (slowly...)
